Any Earthly Use? The Church and Climate Change

Tue 24 September at 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm

A Harvest lecture exploring the relationship between the Church and Climate Change

The biblical basis for Christians to care for God’s Creation, including ensuring a climate that humans and nature can thrive in, is clear.  But, is it realistic to expect that Christians and Churches can make any practical difference to such a serious and complex problem as climate change?

Andy Atkins will hit this question head on. Within the context of the science, economics and politics of climate change, he will explore the opportunities for Christians and the Church to make a significant difference to addressing climate change in the UK, through practical action and influencing wider society. He will point to inspiring examples of action, from local to national level, and suggest the most important ‘next steps’ for individuals, local churches and whole denominations.

Andy Atkins is an engaging speaker, CEO of Christian nature conservation charity, A Rocha UK, which runs the popular Eco Church scheme. Andy has specialised in mobilising the public around social justice and environment issues with both Christian and secular charities. He was previously CEO of Friends of the Earth and Advocacy Director at Tearfund, where he initiated the charity’s work on climate change. Andy spent his childhood in a remote area of tropical north Australia where his parents were missionaries.
